Meraki MR30H Hospitality access point

The Meraki MR30H is kind of a niche product. It’s designed specifically for the needs of hotels, college dorms, and similar applications. But don’t think that it’s limited to that application. It will have a lot of versatility for numerous functions.

From $399 at Corporate Armor, the MR30H is an 802.1ac Wave 2 WiFi access point. It has 2×2 MU-MIMO antennas and moves up to 1.3 Gbps of data. On the other hand, it also includes a four-port Gigabit Ethernet switch for direct connections, so you can connect to up to four network devices.

Additionally, it supports direct 802.3af PoE, as well as including a BLE radio for Bluetooth Beacon functionality.

Use cases

The MR30H makes perfect sense in hotel rooms and such, so visitors can connect to the Internet via either WiFi or Ethernet. Which one depends on their hardware preferences. The Bluetooth Beacon support adds a lot of potential for user interaction via mobile devices as well, such as messaging or delivering custom splash pages. A hotel could send visitors directly to a list of provided services, or a dorm room could take students to a page with school-specific information.

However, it has only a single 10/100/1000 Ethernet input. So using it for simultaneous WiFi and Ethernet connections is best limited to low-bandwidth applications.

For its intended usage scenario, however, it is excellent. That, and its’ relatively low price makes it perfect for larger-scale deployments.

Incredibly easy to use – of course

As with all Meraki products, the MR30H uses a powerful cloud-based setup that allows the MR30H to pretty much configure itself. Once that’s done, all subsequent Meraki devices simply pull down their configurations and coordinate with other installed devices. It’s very easy and efficient.

This is particularly nice in the case of the MR30H, since users could potentially be setting up dozens at a time. Setup time for each room would only be a few minutes, and that’s mostly just the time needed to mount each one to a wall.

The Meraki MR30H comes with all the standard Meraki security features, like a stateful Layer 3-7 firewall and automatic antivirus monitoring. Also, the system does not need manual updating. Updates are automatic via cloud as soon as Meraki releases them.

Of course, everything is controlled in the Meraki Dashboard. And of course, it is exceptionally easy to use. Even networking newcomers can quickly get up and going, while managing networks of any size from a single pane of glass.

Specs and features

The MR30H is a quad-radio access point. As mentioned before, it pushes up to 1.3 Gbps of data. That comes to 866 Mbps max in the 5 GHz band and 400 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band. It has real-time WIPS/WIDS, and a BLE Beacon and scanning radio. It’s optimized for voice and video, and is monitored 24×7 via the Meraki cloud. And diagnostic tools operate remotely and real-time, over the web. This is part of what makes it so easy to manage many of them remotely.

It doesn’t get any easier than the Meraki MR30H. Just plug in, and it connects to the Meraki cloud. It then downloads its configuration, and joins the appropriate network. The MR30H then optimizes itself, determining the ideal channel, transmit power, and client connection parameters. It will even self-heal when necessary, responding automatically to switch failures and other errors.

And Corporate Armor gives you uninterrupted 5-star service and years of specialization in Meraki’s whole family of access points. So call us at 877-449-0458, or email us with any and all questions.
