The Meraki MR28
The Meraki MR28 Wi-Fi 6 access point is a 2×2:2 MU-MIMO cloud managed device. Designed for basic, medium-density deployments, the Meraki MR28 provides up to 1.5 Gbps aggregate frame rate with concurrent 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios. That breaks down to 1.2 Gbps Mbps in the 5 GHz band and 286 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band.
It also has UL/DL OFDMA, and makes an outstandingly reliable platform for small businesses and home office networks.
The Meraki MR78
The MR78 is an entry-level Wi-Fi 6 for outdoor environments. Like the MR28, it’s a Wi-Fi 6, 2×2:2 MU-MIMO cloud managed access point. Also designed for basic, medium-density deployments, the MR78 provides up to 1.5 Gbps aggregate frame rate with concurrent 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios.
That’s 1.2 Gbps Mbps in the 5 GHz band and 286 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band. It also has UL/DL OFDMA, but unlike the MR28, this access point is outdoor-rated.
MU-MIMO and UL/DL OFDMA are real advantages that deliver more efficient transmission to multiple clients. MU-MIMO is especially suited to environments with numerous mobile devices. It enables multiple clients to receive data simultaneously. This increases the total network performance and improves the end-user experience.
Like all Merakis, both of these access points feature wonderfully self-configuring, plug-and-play set-up and management. When plugged in, the Meraki MR28 Wi-Fi 6 Access Point automatically connects to the Meraki cloud. From there, they download configurations, and join the appropriate network. If new firmware is required, it’s retrieved by the AP and updated automatically. As a result, the network is kept up-to-date with bug fixes, security updates, and new features.
