Cisco Meraki MX65 is End Of Life

Like all of Cisco Meraki’s firewall appliances, the MX65 is exceptionally easy to learn and operate, and 100% cloud-managed. And this is where the MX series truly shines. Tell me about Meraki’s licensing. What is this, and why do I need it?

All current Cisco Meraki products require valid licensing to operate. This is done on a “per device, per year” basis. The MX series has  two licenses: Enterprise and Advanced Security. Licenses are available for 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 years, and can be bought through your authorized Meraki partner.

With the basic Enterprise License, you’re getting an excellent stateful inspection firewall with VPN capabilities. This will do a good job of protecting your business from direct intrusion.

The Advanced Security License offers a lot more protection. It is an all-around security package that can protect you from nearly any attack. It includes: Intrusion Detection / Prevention, Anti-Virus and Anti-Phishing, Content and Web-Search Filtering, and Advanced Malware Protection.

It is important to remember that without this licensing, your Meraki network device will cease to function. 30 days prior to your license’s expiration date, the administrators on your account will be notified. Another e-mail will be sent 3 days prior to account expiration. An account expiration banner will also be displayed in the Meraki dashboard during this time. You can reactivate your account at any point in the future after it expires by adding the necessary number of valid licenses.
