Cisco Meraki MX68
Like all of Cisco Meraki’s firewall appliances, the MX68 is easy to learn and operate. Also, it’s 100% cloud-managed. This is where the MX series truly shines. The Meraki MX68 can be remotely deployed in minutes. And, most actions in the cloud interface are point and click. Security settings are simple to synchronize across thousands of sites.
The MX68 pushes 450Mbps of data at once. Therefore, it’s perfectly suitable for setups of up to 50 users. Its Auto VPN technology securely connects branches in 3 clicks. This is done through an intuitive, web-based dashboard. And, it can support up to 50 connections at once at up to 200 Mbps. To secure a site in minutes simply add your MX68 to the dashboard. Then, enable intrusion prevention. Finally, just select the level of threat protection you want.
Tell me about Meraki’s licensing. What is this, and why do I need it?
Importantly, the Meraki MX68 requires valid licensing to operate. These are on a “per device, per year” basis. The MX series has two licenses: Enterprise and Advanced Security. These are available for 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 years. They can be bought through your authorized Meraki partner.
Now, lets look at the basic Enterprise License. With it you’re getting an excellent stateful inspection firewall with VPN capabilities. This will do a good job of protecting your business from direct intrusion.
However, the Advanced Security License offers a lot more protection. It’s an all-around security package that can protect you from nearly any attack. It includes Intrusion Detection / Prevention, Anti-Virus and Anti-Phishing. Additionally, you get Content-and-Web-Search Filtering, and Advanced Malware Protection.
Remember, without this licensing, your Meraki network device will cease to function. So, 30 days prior to your license’s expiration date the administrators on your account will be notified. Then, another e-mail will be sent 3 days prior to expiration.
Lastly, an expiration banner will also be displayed in the Meraki dashboard during this time. However, you can reactivate your account at any point in the future, even after expiration. All you do is, just add the necessary number of valid licenses.
