AVG – ESET Side-by-Side: An Endpoint Protection Inspection

Anti-malware products are getting smarter and more powerful all the time. That’s the good news. The bad news is, so is the malware. Honestly, we are more vulnerable to malware than ever before. That means you need protection that is up-to-par with current technology. When it comes to IT security, you get what you pay for! Today we’ll compare two strong brands that are also Corporate Armor partners. They are AVG and ESET.

And it’s not as though there aren’t good free products out there. However, the fact is that free antivirus software offers limited malware protection. Plus, they aren’t so good against more advanced threats that are coming out nowadays.

AVG

AVG Antivirus is an endpoint security software aimed at small and midsize businesses.

Along with full-time antivirus protection, AVG Internet Security Business Edition also features firewall, email and web protection. Additionally, its anti-malware defenses protect against threats like spam, viruses and spyware. And you can be up an running with this eay-to-install protection for 5 users for under $200 a year.

The real-time protection AVG provides seems to be a big deal to a lot of users. It gives a certain peace of mind knowing that their data is safe and secure at all times, 24/7. AVG Antivirus updates in the background. It doesn’t interrupt your work as it keeps antivirus files and services up to date. If there’s a major update, AVG allows you to choose when to restart your PC.

AVG comes with a Tune Up feature that cleans out junk files, registry logs, duplicate files, Browser history, and all sorts of other left over files. As a result, your PC will be quicker and more responsive.

In addition, it has Data Integrity, a cool behind-the-scenes feature. It scans for unusual files that might enable people to peer in to your personal information. Web Threat Protection, with its anti-ransomware component, gives peace of mind. All in all, AVG is a well-known and well-regarded anti-virus product.

ESET Antivirus

ESET is no newcomer to the field of antivirus, either. These are both heavy-hitters, and both are successful Corporate Armor partners. We offer ESET Endpoint Protection in Standard and Advanced versions.

ESET has clearly done an excellent job at perfecting it’s anti-phishing capabilities. ESET also gets excellent results against malware that have been tested against it. It has excellent intrusion detection abilities. ESET’s engine is well versed against the latest malware threats.

ESET is also proven highly effective against vulnerability threats and active attacker scenarios, even encoded exploits. It even does well against USB-based viruses. It does a good job at virus removal, too.

In addition, it brings with it a software firewall, and the ability to detect malicious Internet communications. Then, it blocks the offending process that initiated it. You also get a Host-based Intrusion Prevention System. It uses a predefined set of rules to identify and stop dubious behavior.

Overall, ESET is powerful, well-designed endpoint protection. It delivers standout threat detection. Plus, it is nicely balanced between being easy to use and effective. The newer features, while powerful, do require a little bit of a learning curve, though.

Head to head

AVG and ESET come out pretty even on overall features. For malware protection, AVG has gotten very good scores in independent testing. It does a good job with email protection. It’s interface is probably the more user friendly of the two. Both are very easy to install.

On the other hand, ESET offers local-language customer that is more comprehensive. As far as pricing goes, AVG is more expensive up front. However, adding licenses gives a ‘bulk pricing” effect. This causes AVG to be more economical where there are many users.
