Meraki MT14 air quality sensor

The Meraki MT14 is a cloud-managed indoor air quality sensor. Like everything Meraki makes, it is easily and masterfully controlled from the cloud. Meraki’s cloud platform allows you to deploy anywhere, and control everything. Real easy.

Currently, five other sensor types are available: the Meraki MT10, MT11, MT12, MT20 and MT30. The MT10 tracks temperature and humidity, the MT11 is an indoor temperature probe sensor, the MT12 detects water leaks, the MT20 detects the opening/closing of a door, and the MT30 is a smart automation button. It’s designed to automate common tasks or trigger specific actions at the press of a button.

Instead of a standalone hub, the MT sensors connect using Bluetooth® Low Energy to existing Meraki Wi-Fi 6 MRs or Meraki MV cameras in your network to gain access to the Meraki Dashboard.

How do MTs communicate with the Meraki Dashboard?

MT Sensors uses BLE to communicate with Meraki IoT gateways. Supported IoT gateway devices are 2nd Generation MV’s and Wi-Fi 6 MR’s. Specifically, those are the MV12(N/W/WE), MV22(X), MV32, and MV72(X) cameras. This also includes the MR36, MR45, MR44, MR46, MR46E, MR55, MR56, MR76, and MR86 access points.

As long as the sensor is within range of the gateway, it will automatically pick up the BLE signal and connect. And flexible mounting, battery or wired power options, and automatic Bluetooth® pairing make it easy to provision thousands of sensors in a short amount of time.

Initial set-up

Installing and setting up the Meraki MT14 is very straightforward. Simply install the sensor/s in various spots using the included screws, magnet, or double-sided tape. Then press the General Purpose Button on each sensor. Pressing the button wakes the sensor, allowing it to connect to the MR gateway. Each MT sensor comes with AA batteries that are expected to last up to 5 years. Some MT sensors support an optional power adapter as well.

Following the physical installation, each sensor shows up in the new “Environment” tab in the Meraki Dashboard. From here you can see the current and past status of each sensor. You can use this tab to configure Alert Profiles for each sensor type. For example, if water is detected, send an email to the monitoring and maintenance e-mail lists and text the maintenance on-call number.

All in all, the installation and configuration of the MT sensors is incredibly simple. Just as it is with any Meraki product.

What does the MT14 actually do?

It monitors indoor air quality. This has become increasingly important to schools, businesses, and other organizations looking to create smart, sustainable buildings. It is paramount to provide safe and comfortable environments. Poor air quality can decrease productivity. It can also cause adverse health effects ranging from mild to severe.

The Meraki MT14 provides real-time indoor air quality monitoring to promote smart spaces and safe, healthy environments. The MT14 can detect the presence of chemicals, debris, extreme temperature, humidity, and noise. If air quality decreases for any reason, MT can notify you immediately. It can even automate the building HVAC system to increase ventilation and keep people safe.

Never miss a thing

The Meraki MT14 gives you complete visibility by associating sensor events with MV camera footage. You can also monitor and troubleshoot on-the-go with the Meraki mobile app, and stay in-the-know with real-time alerts via email, SMS, push notification, or webhook.

And the MT14 is secure!

Of course it is! Each Meraki MT sensor features a Trust Anchor module. This securely authenticates the device and encrypts all communication with the sensor gateways. Combined with automated firmware updates, the MT14 packs a powerful security punch in a smart package.

In conclusion

So, Meraki is introducing a range of sensors to prevent loss and increase operational efficiency. Other solutions tend to be complicated to install. They also don’t scale and are tough to use. They do not give businesses simple and reliable visibility into their critical assets. The MT series remedies this by enabling you to maximize network uptimes, reduce equipment failure and unnecessary site visits, and deliver great customer service.

Meraki sensors are simple, scalable and secure. And they connect to the dashboard using the MV/MR which removes the need for expensive gateways. Customers can now gain real-time visibility into their critical business environment form a single pane of glass.
