What is CradlePoint’s NetCloud, anyway?

If you have any recent experience with Cradlepoint products, you are likely at least somewhat familiar with NetCloud. Or, if you are looking at CradlePoint currently, you might be curious about it.

Basically, the Cradlepoint NetCloud suite is similar to the bundles that firewalls often come with. This cloud service adds greatly to the features and power of your Cradlepoint router. For example, NetCloud offers secure cloud management and control of your Cradlepoint router. Cradlepoint offers Netcloud in one, three and five-year subscriptions that include 24×7 support.

All current CradlePoint routers come with NetCloud Essentials. It consists of 24×7 support (CradleCare), NetCloud Manager and NetCloud Perimeter. Basically, it is a secure, cloud-based networking plan built for Internet of Things and machine-to-machine uses.

CradleCare 24×7 Support

CradleCare 24×7 Support includes online support cases, useful How-Tos, knowledge articles and forum discussions which are login-free. Additionally, it has 24×5 chat and 24×7 phone support (login required), Weekdays live support, and Weekends emergency-only support with a target response time of 2 hrs max.

Plus, there’s also Advanced Exchange, a next-business-day replacement, 3-year hardware warranty, and Limited lifetime warranty for all hardware products covered under a NetCloud Service Plan

NetCloud Manager

NetCloud Manager is an essential tool for managing your CradlePoint devices remotely. Whether your routers are deployed in distant locations, used for digital signage installations, or just traveling with your field sales team, CradlePoint makes it easy to keep in touch with your network edge.

DEPLOYMENT – configure devices by groups or individually, and update firmware with a few clicks.
MANAGEMENT – monitor devices real-time and set proactive alerts for optimized data usage and network uptime.
INTELLIGENCE – view network analytics, manage security and compliance.

NetCloud Manager is available in 3 versions, NCM STANDARD, NCM PRIME, and NCM ENTERPRISE. Depending on the package purchased, NCM STANDARD or NCM PRIME is provided. Upgrades to the next level of NCM are available.

NetCloud Perimeter

NetCloud Perimeter gives you a software defined network for your devices. Think of it as 2 different implementations.

IOT devices behind a CradlePoint Router (Gateway):

This implementation is ideal for cameras, sensors, printers, etc. that are sitting behind the CradlePoint router. When NetCloud Perimeter is implemented, a VPN is established. Any device behind the CradlePoint is accessed by a private IP address. Access to the network is invitation only. Therefore, hackers can’t access these devices because they can’t see them. After all, they do not require a public IP address.

Workstations, Servers, Tablets, Cellular Phones:

This implementation is ideal for remote workforces. If a device is not sitting behind behind a CradlePoint router gateway, a client is deployed directly on IoT devices, laptops, tablets, and smartphones that run Linux, OS-X, Windows, Android, or iOS with the NetCloud Client. These devices are then invited into the ‘private’ network.

The installation is pretty quick and simple, and easy to pick up. But with CradleCare 24×7 support, you can get assistance with the initial install and be up and running in less than 10 minutes.

Finally, we hope this has been helpful in explaining the NetCloud services that power and enhance all Cradlepoint routers in a useful, readable way. And, if you have any further questions, please email us or call 877-449-0458. Thanks for reading!
